OUR STORY

The Veterinary Pharmacology Research Foundation (VPRF) is a registered 501(c)(3) research foundation founded in 2007 by the governing bodies of the American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics (AAVPT) and the American College of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology (ACVCP).

These organizations found that there was a lack of funding for veterinary pharmacology research which limited the following:

  • Growth and innovation in the development of new veterinary therapeutics

  • The evaluation of drugs for treatment of diseases in animals

  • The number of trained researchers in veterinary pharmacology

To address this problem, the two groups formed a funding source as a vehicle to invest their collective resources in the growth of veterinary pharmacology.

OUR FOCUS

VPRF sponsors grants and research projects which further veterinary pharmacology research.

Research: We concentrate on veterinary pharmacological research in order to evaluate the safety, effectiveness and duration of effect of therapies for veterinary species, explore new animal drug therapies, develop and validate methods of evaluating effects of drugs in animal diseases or conditions, and ensure that a safe food supply is not compromised by drug therapy.

Training: We aim to develop future trained veterinary pharmacologists through support of summer internships for students, ACVCP residency programs, and fellowships/post-doctoral programs.
